World Book Day 2017

World Book Day 2017

All Dorset Road children and staff dressed up as their favourite book character. The school was full of princesses, fairy-tale characters, action-heroes, a Gruffalo or two, Mary Poppins, Pippi Longstocking….

A “Reading Afternoon Tea” for parents and families was very well attended.

We also held a “Potato Decorating” competition. We had a fine array of imaginatively decorated potatoes, including Rapunzel, Mr Tickle, Little Red Riding Hood, the Hungry Caterpillar.

Thank you to our wonderful families for helping their children decorate the potatoes, putting together the costumes and joining us for reading at the tea.

School Council visit to the Mayor of Bromley

The four elected School Council members visited the Mayor of Bromley on Wednesday 9th November 2016. This was arranged by Councillor David Cartwright who is also a Governor at Dorset Road.

Indie, Sophia, George and Funmilayo spent some time in the chambers where they learnt about democracy and the significant features on the Bromley Crest.

The children then met the Mayor and discussed the role and responsibilities of his job, which they really enjoyed. They spent a lot of time talking about their future aspirations, and the importance of living in a democratic society.

The Mayor gave each of the children a special badge to remember the day.

Autumn Term in Reception

The Autumn Term has been a busy one in Reception.  We started the school year off by thinking about friendship and how to make friends.  We thought of ways to be kind to one another and create a happy learning environment.  We solved mysteries together, by working out whose footprints belonged to who in our playground and later, we visited the moon with our jet packs!  We have also been thinking about signs of Autumn and the changes we can see around us.

Year 2 Space Topic

Year 2 started back after their half term break to a big surprise! Awaiting them in their classroom was a crashed rocket and the biggest mess caused by the debris. The class investigated the materials they found very closely and filled in crash incident reports to hand to the authorities. Their keen minds deduced that an alien had escaped from the scene. What Year 2 are waiting to find out is……will the alien return?
